Pain comes in many shapes and sizes. One of the most commonly treated pain disorders with acupuncture is low back pain and sciatica.

Patients of all ages can be affected by this debilitating pain that can send sharp, shooting pain down the legs, and render patients unable to walk or move properly.

Martin D. of La Jolla, CA was experiencing this pain when his primary care doctor referred him out for acupuncture.

“I was experiencing severe pain in my lower back and down the right side of my leg to my foot. The numbness and pain I was dealing with were having a major effect on every aspect of my life. The pain was extreme, and I had all but given up on any chance of being able to do the things I was used to doing. I was very depressed and was even contemplating medical retirement from a job I truly love”

Sciatica is a condition resulting from compression of the sciatic nerve as it travels from the low back down the thigh where it branches off into several nerves to the foot. It can come about from an injury, poor posture, a herniated disk in the spine or an overgrowth of bone, sometimes called bone spurs, or even during pregnancy.

“I had always considered myself to have a high threshold/tolerance for pain, but this was something different.” shares Martin, whose experience is not uncommon for those diagnosed with sciatica.

That is until he found us! We have mastered a non-invasive, non-pharmaceutical medical solution to treat sciatica, by eliminating or greatly reducing its symptoms and giving people their lives back.

Dr. Trottier explains, “Acupuncture is incredible at improving blood flow and stimulating the body’s natural and normal self-healing mechanisms. We take our treatments a step further by integrating movement therapy that will enable you to continue life pain-free past your treatment plan.”

Three years later, Martin is still thrilled with his progress,“I am a true believer in you and your treatment methods, and I express that every chance I get with co-workers, close friends, and family.  I drop your name and ‘OUR’ success story every chance I get!”

Success stories like Martin’s are not atypical for us. “We have a 90% success rate in treating sciatica,” shares Dr. Trottier.

The number of treatments needed to allow for complete healing will vary from person to person. This can only be determined after a detailed medical evaluation in the office. Even many patients who are told that surgery is their only option often are candidates for treatment here at Level Acupuncture.
