Red Light and Near Infrared Light are naturally occurring light frequencies appearing every day with the rise and fall of the sun. Red light therapy is a non-invasive treatment using specific wavelengths to penetrate the skin and promote cellular health.

This therapy works in harmony with other modalities in the clinic that stimulate mitochondrial production of ATP, a molecule that is essential for good health and healing. Many chronic diseases and conditions are associated with poor mitochondrial health and low ATP production.

Expectations

(01) EXPOSED SKIN

Red Light Therapy only works with exposed skin, so please dress appropriately so that your desired treatment location is accessible.

(02) WARM SENSATION

Red light therapy can feel warm, however, most of the sensation is actually coming from the body’s increase as circulation instead of heat emitted from the lamp, so there is very low risk of skin burning.

(03) RELAXED + HAPPY

Many patients describe a relaxed and happy feeling with Red Light Therapy.

Common Questions About Red Light Therapy

Can I Use FSA/HSA Benefits?

Yes! Light therapy is eligible for your FSA/HSA benefits. You can use your card in the clinic or ask for a statement from our front desk.

How Long Does Treatment Last?

Therapeutic treatment times are 5-15min per area treated. Your total treatment time may vary depending on number of areas treated and your other complementary treatments in the office.

What Are The Risks?

Red Light Therapy is safe and painless. Over-exposure generally only occurs after many hours of consecutive exposure. Some patients with photophobia or sensitivity to light may experience aggravation of symptoms due to the brightness of the lamp, but we have eye protection for your use. With time, many patients find that their eyes adjust to the brightness and feel enhanced benefit when exposing their eyes to the light.

How Often Should I Come?

Research shows that the benefits of Red Light Therapy are most often reached with 3-5 treatments per week. Your frequency may not need to be that high if you are pairing multiple modalities. Dr. Lindsay Trottier will discuss your best treatment plan at your first visit.
